Located at the strategic crossroads of major North-South and East-West transport corridors, the Port of Baku provides the access to any targeted road of transport system of the country. In other words, if you are coming to Baku from Europe/Turkey via Georgia (from the West) either by rail or road, you will arrive at Alyat first and then turn north to Baku. All major rail and road links of Azerbaijan meet at Alyat. So it is particularly convenient for TIRs and rail cargo moving in either East or West to go via Alyat as it bypasses the city and you save about 70-80 km in the meantime.
