In the first quarter of 2021, Port of Baku cargo throughput volume increased by 17% compared to the same quarter of last year

In the first quarter of 2021, Baku International Sea Trade Port CJSC (Port of Baku) experienced a noticeable increase in core services. At the port, which is an important element of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, the total throughput volume in the first quarter exceeded 1.4 million tons, which is 16.7% more than the corresponding indicator of 2020. In the first 3 months of this year, the share of transit cargo accounted for 93% of the total transshipment. This is an increase of 22% compared to the same period last year.

 

It should be noted that in the first quarter of 2021, the number of large-volume vehicles (HGVs) reached 9,165 compared to the same period last year. Of these, 6,605 (72%) moved in the Baku-Turkmenbashi-Baku direction and 2,560 (28%) in the Baku-Kuryk-Baku direction. The number of containers carried increased by 30%, reaching 9,261 TEU equivalents.

 

In the first quarter of this year, the volume of cargo transshipped at the cargo terminal increased by 51.5% year-on-year to 290,883 tons, the bulk of which was Turkmenistan's fertilizer products.

 

Other significant increases were recorded in the volume of oil and petroleum products transferred at the Dubendi oil terminal. Thus, the volume of oil and oil products transshipped in the first quarter of 2021 reached 437,310 tons.

 

At the Ferry terminal, 6,611 wagons passed through during the relevant period. Of these, 4,897 wagons moved in the Baku-Turkmenbashi-Baku direction (74%) and 1,714 wagons in the Baku-Kuryk-Baku direction (26%).
