Members of the German-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce (AHC Azerbaijan), which unites more than 140 German companies, were informed that 2020 was the most memorable year in the history of Azerbaijan's independence and under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev our brave army delivered a devastating blow to the enemy and put an end to the occupation. Director-General Taleh Ziyadov stated that the November 11 agreement, which confirmed Azerbaijan's victory, also includes the opening of communication lines in the region. This also makes Azerbaijan an important transport and logistics hub between Europe and Asia.

Referring to the results of 2020, the Director-General said that despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the trade turnover of the Port of Baku increased by 20%. The number of large vehicles (TIRs) and containers overturned in that year was at a record level for the last 30 years. During the reporting period, the number of trucks increased by 28% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 43,218 units. The number of exported containers increased by 15% and reached 40,345 containers in TEU equivalent. The volume of cargo transported at the dry cargo terminal increased 2.8 times and amounted to 711.7 thousand tons. Thus, compared to the last 5 years, there has been a 5-fold increase in truck overloads, 3 times in containers, and a 3.5-fold increase in the volume of cargo handled at the dry cargo terminal.

It was noted that it is being planned to build mineral terminal and grain terminal, taking into account the increase in exports of mineral products (carbamide and sulfur) from Turkmenistan, and large grain exports from Kazakhstan. It was noted that the Port of Baku is deepening cooperation with its European partners, strengthening human capital with the European Union, and implementing projects on digitalization and green ports with the OSCE. In 2019, the Port of Baku gained the status of the first "Green Port" in the Caspian Sea and became one of the 26 ports in Europe that received such a status.

It was brought to the attention of the meeting participants that on January 15, 2021, the Port of Baku signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the APEC Port Training Center of the Port of Antwerp, the second largest port in Europe. According to the memorandum, employees of the Port of Baku, representatives of Azerbaijani logistics companies or those wishing to work in the field of transport, trade and logistics in general will be able to get acquainted with the activities of the Antwerp and North Sea Port, the international logistics center and customs service. At the same time, German companies operating in Azerbaijan will be able to benefit from the second training program implemented by the Port of Baku. The 4-month training, which will take place around Venlo, one of the most important logistics centers in the Netherlands, on the border with Germany, will be held and organized at the Fontys University of Applied Sciences and the Gilde Vocational Education and will cover areas such as international logistics, the global port industry, warehouse management, port operations and customs procedures.
