Today, the opening ceremony of the project titled "Support to Enhancement of Operational Capabilities and Implementation of the Green Port Concept of the Port of Baku” to be implemented by the Port of Baku and the European Union (EU) was held.

The main goal of the project is to support the development of the region and the entire corridor by strengthening port operations, and Green Port policy application opportunities, including trade and investment activities in the Port of Baku, which plays the role of a bridge between East and West and has an important strategic position. Within the framework of the event, which is expected to last 15 months, efforts will be made to develop a specially integrated logistics management system, obtain new international certificates of the Port, and ensure closer interaction with developed European ports. All these steps are expected to support the development of the Port of Baku as a regional center and create a positive foundation for the development of ports and logistics centers in the region.

 

The Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport, the Minister of Economy, the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Investment Holding, and other government officials, the Ambassador of the European Union to Azerbaijan Peter Mikhalko, as well as the ambassadors of more than 20 European countries to Azerbaijan participated in the event, the General Director of  Port of Baku opened the event and made a speech. The Director General noted that the Middle Corridor plays a very important role between Europe and Asia and the development of this corridor is beneficial for all parties. Talking about the importance of implementing a green port policy along the Middle Corridor, Taleh Ziyadov said that the Port of Baku has come a long way in this field with the support of the EU, but the future goals are bigger.

At the same time, the Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rahman Hummetov, who spoke at the event, said that such measures implemented by the EU to support the transport and logistics of our region play an important role in the development of the region in general, and the development of this cooperation is important.

 

Deputy Minister of Economy Sahib Mammadov also said during his speech that Azerbaijan's government attaches great importance to cooperation with the European Union and close cooperation is carried out in many areas. Stating that special importance is attached to the implementation of the green concept in all fields in our country, the deputy minister said that this project will also play a big role in the sustainable, sustainable, and rapid development of Port of Baku.

 

Peter Miсhalko, the ambassador of the European Union to Azerbaijan, noted that the transit transport corridors of Azerbaijan are a priority for the EU.

 

It was noted that since 2016, with the support of the EU, Port of Baku has successfully implemented 5 TAIEX and 3 long-term technical assistance projects in the field of green port operations, digitalization, and sustainable development. The project inaugurated today is related to the port infrastructure, international certification requirements, the launch of the Digital HR System, the development of the  Port of Baku Training Center as a regional center, the diversification of energy sources and the supply chain, the more successful implementation of the Green Port policy, and at the same time the Port of Baku, which is a logistics center, will bring business to the port. and supporting investment attraction creates an opportunity.
