For the first time in the history of the modern Port of Baku, the annual cargo handling volume has reached 7.6 million tons
As a result of long-term and systematic steps taken to improve transport infrastructure in Azerbaijan, there has been a steady increase in the volume of cargo attracted to the Port of Baku. Since 2018, the Port of Baku has been fully operational in the Alat settlement, 70 km south of the capital. Thanks to the large-scale infrastructure projects implemented in the port, modern technical capabilities, and a professional team, interest in the Port of Baku, which holds a significant share in the international transport corridors passing through the region, is increasing. If in 2000, 4.5 million tons of cargo were handled through the Port of Baku, in 2024 this figure increased to a record level of 7.6 million tons.
Currently, the Port of Baku has the capacity to annually handle 15 million tons of cargo and 100,000 TEU equivalent of containers. To ensure the efficient transit of cargo volumes, projected to increase further in the future, preparations for the construction of the second phase of the Port of Baku have begun under the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, H.E. Ilham Aliyev. With the implementation of this project, the port's annual cargo handling capacity will be increased to 25 million tons of cargo, including 500 TEU equivalent containers.
