A meeting was held with the Ambassador of China at the Port of Baku

Baku International Sea Port (Port of Baku), a subsidiary of “Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC under AZCON Holding, hosted a meeting today between the Port’s Director, Eldar Salahov, and a delegation led by Her Excellency Ms. Lu Mei, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Azerbaijan.

 

During the meeting at the Port of Baku, the delegation was provided with detailed information about the port’s infrastructure capabilities, achievements in recent years, and cargo transportation indicators between the two countries. The discussions also covered the development of bilateral cooperation and the possibilities of expanding partnership within the framework of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor).

 

In his remarks, Mr. Salahov underlined the Port of Baku’s strategic role as one of the key transit hubs of the Middle Corridor, emphasizing the importance of joint efforts to ensure faster and more efficient cargo flows from China to Europe.

 

Ambassador Lu Mei highly appreciated the opportunities for Chinese companies to utilize the Middle Corridor, stressing the importance of maximizing existing opportunities to further strengthen trade and logistics relations between the two countries.

 

It should be noted that in the first seven months of last year, the total cargo turnover through the Port of Baku in trade between China and the West, the West and China, as well as between Azerbaijan and China, amounted to 360 thousand tons. In the corresponding period of this year, this figure increased by 3.0% to over 371 thousand tons. In particular, container transportation recorded a growth of more than 105% compared to the same period of the previous year. During the first half of this year, a total of 25,611 TEU equivalent containers were transported through the Port of Baku between China and the West in both directions.
